Essence is a portrait series exploring femininity, cultural identity and the quiet presence of women. Created on natural wood, each portrait draws inspiration from women of different cultural backgrounds, using traditional dress, pattern, jewellery and adornment as visual traces of heritage and individual identity. Detailed linework and cross-hatching sit against the exposed grain of the wood, while touches of gold bring warmth and connection across the collection.
